Book Tour post: Forgotten by P.C Cast & Kristin Cast

Review copy of Forgotten infront of my Altar to Loki, Frigga and Freyja

This will be a 3 part post. A book review, a music playlist and fav quotes. The music playlist will be for each canon ship. This post is *not* spoiler free. I won’t be revealing every little thing but I may reveal something you may deem a spoiler. So here is your warning to stop here.

The Book review:

As I always start my reviews off with content warnings, We’ll do the same here. Neferet is rather violent. She speaks of rape tho the person who did the act is different in the other world. Lynette also hints at being raped or abused. Neferet creates a mini cult of 4 humans. The Red Vampyres in the other world are spoken as committing mass suicide.

As for rep, we got Damien and Jack as a couple.

The first big piece of the book is on Kalona, Nyx and Erebus. With a what if and different outcome. Then we spend alot of time with Neferet and Lynette. There is very little of our world’s Nerd Herd in this book. They do appear but have the smallest role to play.

Our beloved Grandma Redbird does play a huge role, which I loved so much. She is very special to me even since loosing my Nana Feb 2013.

We get to revisits the Twins, Erin and Shaunee. In the other world, both girls are seen partying with Dallas with Shaunee asking Other Kevin if she has a choice. It was nice to see Erin again. We both share the same elemental affinity for water, and our stories mirror each other.

I would 100% say to pick this book up. P.C Cast even printed my question in the Q&A in the back. If your a Transgender reader, you can rest easy knowing both P.C and Kristin are allies!

Music Playlist:

Stark & Zoey – Taylor Swift – Lovers
Rephiam & Stevie Rae – Miley Cyrus – Adore you

Favorite Quote: The Ritual for grief Grandma Redbird teaches Other Kevin

  1. Light your smudge stick, and as you smudge yourself, concentrate on the cause of your grief. speak aloud the name of the person or animal or aspect of your life you have lost.
  2. when you feel you are able, carefully set aside the smudge stick on a rock or something nonflammable. then breathe in deeply to count of four–in and out, in and out—four times.
  3. with your next inhale, send your breath to a specific part of your body that hurts and when you exhale, imagine your breath carrying the pain away from you.
  4. then, aloud, ask for help from whatever is causing you grief. it can be as simple as saying ” please help me stop being so sad that you’ve gone that i can’t go on with my life.”

Book Review: We Are Lost And Found

Rep: Michael is gay; Connor is gay; Gabriel is gay
Content Warnings: Homophobia; Description of AIDs and how it is effecting it’s victims

This came in a batch of three books dealing with AIDs, and 60’s/80’s time period. This is the second best of the three. Michael sounds like his age unlike Jonathan of Ziggy, Stardust and Me. Like A Love Story is still the best of the three.

Michael spends the book wondering if his brother Conner has AIDs while trying to deal with his crush on Gabriel. It gets tricker when Conner claims Gabriel is “well known”, causing Michael to dread Gabriel might be AIDs Positive.

I 100% rec this book. So often the Queer community of my gen and younger forget what it used to be like. They take the past forganted. So many believed once same-sex marriage was legalize country-wide, we could stop being activist, that we won and thats that.

Book Review Post: Ziggy, Stardust And Me

Rep: Jonathan is Gay; Web is Gay Native American boy from Lakota
Content Warning: Jonathan is subjected to Conversion Therapy; He is later beaten harshly; Web deals with extreme racism; Jonathan’s father is an abusive drunk

I really liked the book. I did, however, hate how immature Jonathan sounded. He spoke like he was 9-12, not a high school student. I’m more used to high school YA sounding like 20+, not the other way around.

It came in a pack of queer books dealing with 60’s or 80’s queer era. It came out along side Like A Love Story, & We Are Lost And Found. I would total rec this book but Like A Love Story is the best of the three.

Book Review: All The Bad Apples

Rep: Deena is Lesbian; Cale is her girlfriend unsure if Lesbian/Bisexual/Pansexual
Content Warnings: Deena’s grandmother is sent to a home for unwed mothers

This book was so good, heavy but good. Deena tries to break a family curse that she is convinced by Mandy that is real. Cale is a hereditary witch who helps on the quest. Finn is her male best friend. Ida is a niece she finds on her quest.

I would 100% rec this book. I can’t say if Moira is Queer in any way, she does say she has queer witchy children. So can’t say if this is ownvoices or not.

The magick in the book isn’t harry potter magick but real world witchcraft.

Book Review: Slay

Rep: Possible that Q.Diamond is Transgender
Content Warning: Racist words used

This is a tricky book to review. Part of me really loved it! I was that kid in 1996, obsessed with Yu-Gi-Oh!, huddled infront of the TV every Sat morning to watch Yugi and Kaiba battle. Dark Magician vs Blue-Eyes White Dragon. It was a game changing Anime.

On the other hand, This book tries to justify gate keeping someone out of the game by skin color. Keira’s own mod is scared to “confess” to being Biracial. This is also the first book I ever read that used the “C” slur and I don’t mean another word for a female body part.

Keira is scared too death to show off her great game to her own black boyfriend. Only her sister acts like this is wrong. The book starts off with a white girl asking about dreads. I had to eye roll.

Would I rec this book? Yes…and…no. It’s a really tricky book. I don’t like the idea an all one racial space isn’t exclusionary. Would I call Kiera racist? Yes I would. She states she wants to go to an all black school because she hates white people. She catches herself and turns it onto “I’m tired of being a spokeperson for 2-4 black students in an all white school.”

Keira and Wyatt are the same coin. Both are racist, both are horrid people. I fully support safe spaces. They are valid and shouldn’t be a meme. It’s also wrong to assume all white people would racist in a game. It punishes the majority of good white people who aren’t racist and like to co-mingle with the ultra small but too loud racist white people obsessed with free speech.

Book Review: Loki

Rep: Loki is (hintedly) Genderfluid. He does flirt abit with girls and boys, so he is kinda Pansexual but the rep does feel faint to me. Theo is Gay.
Content Warnings: Semi graphic talks of dead bodies; Odin’s shitty parenting & Frigga making excuses for it.

This book is hard to review. Some ways it’s great. Loki brags about his boots, wears black nail polish, shifts into a girl at times and even kisses both a boy and girl. In other ways, it’s trying too hard to be both MCU-connected and Comic book Connected. Odin is MCU Odin though and though. Thor is abit like Movie 1 Thor and kinda like Thor from the comics. Frigga makes zero sense. In the MCU, we see her defend Loki and stand up to both Thor & Odin, in this, she tells Loki to accept that Seidr won’t be allowed and willingly joins in Odin assuming the vision is Loki.

I only know Amora from the various one shot cartoon movies. Her obsession with Loki makes no sense, she in every movie is envious of Sif getting Thor since she wanted Thor for herself. She is alot weaker in seidr than Loki and is a follower. Both she and Frigga don’t match their old Marvel lore one bit.

Would I rec the book? Yes and no. If Loki is everything to you and your waiting for the Loki TV show and weather Loki shows up in Thor 4, and your between new issues of the 2019 Loki comic? I would say go for it. It’s a quick read. If your looking for evil Loki because you still believe Loki was 100% in control in Avengers 1, you’re gonna be in for a bad time. If you only like Thor 3, Avengers 3 & 4 Loki and Thor, you’re gonna be in for a bad time. Thor is correctly shown as the bully we Loki fans always knew he was. Loki isn’t the butt of any jokes either.

It really depends on form of Loki fan you are. For those us disgusted at Thor 3, horrified at Infinity wars, and cheated by End games, this is a good book to fill in the holes.

Huge blog announcement peeps!

Thats right, my blog is one of the stops on the Forgotten blog tour!!!! I’ll be posting a Review , Playlist and Favorite quotes on Oct 24,2019. I so can’t wait to do this! This book series is just so super important to me.

It’s one of the reasons I’m now a Wiccan. Nyx got me though some of the worse events. Grandma Redbird helped me so much when my Nana died in 2012.

Having an affinity for water myself, Erin was a lesson. It’s easy for water affinity people to choose to be ice instead of an ocean. We get hurt too easily and we feel too much.

Stevie taught me to stand for what I believed even if it may cost me. I just can’t gush on this book series enough.

I really really really can’t wait to do this! I hope I’m not fan enby-ing too much but omg omg omg.

musingsofabookgirl’s Taylor Swift Book Tag

Find the promt here yourself: https://musingsofabookgirl.com/2019/08/26/taylor-swift’s-lover-book-tag-[original]/

Some of my picks is gonna ruffle some feathers. Please don’t send me hate mail on twitter over it. I’m so tired of not being able to gush on my OTP from Book of air and fire by Holly black cuz it’s not Jude and Cardan. Everytime I mention what it is, I get hate mail. Let people ship who they wants, hmmmkay?

I wanted so badly to like this book as I loved Cole in the other 3 books. But I couldn’t relate to Cole or Isobel in this one. Idk what is so different about it from Shiver, Linger or Forever.

Erin, not only has to deal with her mother’s weird obsession with her Autism, we learn before the story begins that she too was raped, not just Lucy

Taryn and Locke. Yes, I am the 1% of this fandom that prefers Taryn and Locke than Jude. I await your hate mail. Happens every damn time. I find Taryn way more interesting than her twin Jude. I’m super nervous about Locke’s fate as we saw a sorta preview. I hope both survive the series, and that Jude gets her true punishment for her actions in both cruel prince and wicked king.

Vivian creates a feminist zine and tries to make her school better for girls with her new friend Lucy

Ben deals with anxiety disorder as They work out questions with their gender and the falling apart of their family.

I normally dont like mating bonds but i’m really liking Aurora and Kal. I rather Auri with Kal than with Tyler. Not really into golden hero boys in media. In terms of fav characters, Fin would earn that.

Mara’s twin brother is accused of raping his girlfriend Hannah who is also Mara’s best friend. Mara’s girlfriend Charlie sides with Hannah while Mara’s parents side with Owen. We learn that Mara is forced into summer classes one year due to refusing a male teacher’s advances. The book deals with the politics of rape.

Swan Sister Hazel and Bo’s love transends life and death. Once the curse is broken and Penny is free, Bo loves Penny but still visits hazel’s apple trees.

Rumi’s little sister is killed in a car crash and her mother ships her off to Hawaii to her Aunt. Rumi believes strongly her mother loved Lea more than her. Being the unwanted child, I really relate to Rumi. She is also Aromantic Asexual like me as well.

Page is Gender Queer and questioning weather he/she/they are Non-Binary or Genderfluid. This is the book that made me want to come out last Nov.

This story takes place in Ireland. Being the Great Grandchild of two Irish Immigrants, I have always dream of going to Ireland someday.

Leigh truly believed her Mother would get better but her mother dies by suicide. She chases her mother back to her home country of Taiwan believing her mother has became a red bird.

I’m off and on with science fiction. It’s a recent try with The Illuminae Files.

I’m not sure how hyped or under hyped this book is but compared to Simon and other books in that series, this one is kinda quiet

Nikolai was the one of the 3 love interests I thought Aline should have picked. Mal is an ass, Darkling is high on himself, and Nikolai actually cared. He can be hard to love cuz he is so hard to read. He both bashes himself and puts himself on a throne of greatness. But he is one of my fav in the Grishaverse

This one was hard to pick. I have been such a reader for awhile now. often reading 2-4 books a week. But, City of Bones was a start of an era for me. Twilight was my first book series to really make me wait for the next one to come out. Shadowhunters is so many books and I never want this world to end. Mangus Bane was my first queer character. I relate the most to Alec, and for the girls I relate most to Clary.

The NerdHerd is totally friendship goals! There is 12 novels, 4 novellas and so far 2 spin off novels. No way was I gonna fit all those in one image!

Danny moves to a new state and finds out she is a Witch. She finds a new lover in Rush, and family in her coven, The Grays.

Book Review: The Meaning Of Birds

Rep: Jess is a lesbian, It never states for Vivi so I can’t say for sure she is Lesbian as well or if Bi/Pan; Cheyanne is Aro/Ace
Trigger warning: Jess flirts with going straight and makes comments that are deeply uncomfortable as someone Queer; Jess and her group smoke Pot and drink alot. Some of Jess’s words are Aspecphobic

I loved this book so much as someone who loves loves loves birds! The book is deeply sad however yet there are sparks of hope which I loved. We even get to see a married F/F and that gives alot of hope to young queer teenagers.

Totally pick this book up! It’s not as happy as her Georgia Peaches and other forbidden fruit but just as Queer!
